Sinai Hospital – a place of healing for both people and animals!

My co-worker came running in this morning to tell me that a sick dog was sitting outside our trailer. While Animal Control had been called, the dog was lethargic and not eating, and looked like he had been in a few scrapes.

Staff members were worried. I called my husband, who works near Sinai, and he arrived quickly and picked up the 50-pound dog to take it to the car. We first went to the Maryland SPCA, where the staff could not have been nicer, and gave the dog, now named Walter, some food. However, since they do not have a vet on staff, it was clear we needed to take Walter to Timonium Animal Hospital.

Once again, everyone doted over Walter. It was clear that he had been in quite a few fights, but licked everyone’s face and did not mutter a peep when they drew blood.

His stats?

An unneutered pit bull, about 10 months old, who probably had been in some dog fights. He is on antibiotics, which will hopefully clear up the signs of infection that showed up in his blood work. He did not react to other dogs, and is great with humans. He seemed interested in our cats (friends or food?) when he arrived home, and is being kept in our bedroom.

The veterinarian feels Walter would be best in a home with no other dogs, young children or cats, the latter of which is why we can’t keep him. He has incredibly soulful eyes and is filled with love, and we are confident that we can get him healthy and into a loving home.

Please keep your fingers crossed. For those of you who have expressed interest in contributing to Walter’s medical bills, a heartfelt thanks! We are working on setting up a fund for him and hope to have the pertinent information up here in the next 24 hours. I will be posting regularly and have better pictures soon.
