Walter Update

November 13, 2009

Sorry neither of us have been blogging - we were away on an awesome tour of zoos in Pittsburgh, Columbus and Cincinnati, which is its own story. But we have good news:

Walter has found a new home!

We handed him over to a potential adopter while we went away as a “trial run” and it went splendidly. Justin and I will visit Walter and his new owner on Sunday to sign the puppy over officially and say good-bye. However, we have told the new owner that Walter has a standing invitation to come over anytime she’s away. We plan to take pictures on Sunday of the happy duo.

We definitely miss having Walter around, but we could not have asked for a better match for him. He’s already making new friends, canine and human.

However, our work is not done. We know how many animals like Walter need emergency veterinary care, so we will continue to fund raise for Walter Rescue once all of our IRS paperwork is in order. We plan to highlight a dog a month who needs lifesaving medical care. We think this will fill in a gap in the rescue/adoption world, as we know there are lots of people who are interested in adopting but worried about the initial veterinary costs associated with it. To be clear, there will be no extraordinary measures, such as transplants. But it cost around $700 get Walter healthy again, and that was for things like treating his infection, getting him vaccinated, running tests, etc. It’s also worth noting that we have an awesome, reasonably priced vet with Timonium Animal Hospital, as I shudder to think how much Walter could have potentially cost.

So please stay tuned to this blog, as we will continue to update it regularly, both with news on Walter and the next dog in peril.
