Walter's Sad Journey

While we’ve lived in Baltimore for several years, this is our first experience with a pit bull who has been involved in dog fighting. What’s amazing to me is how gentle and laid-back Walter is with everyone we’ve come across. It’s true he’s not fond of cats, but I’ve never seen any 10-month-old puppy react so well to strangers, new dogs and a new environment. I cringe every time I pet him and hit a scar or scab, but he just licks my face.
There has been some wonderful work in Chicago with the Humane Society of the United States and their End Dogfighting Program. I hope that efforts in Baltimore to curb dog fights continue.
