Potential Lewis Adopter Coming Tomorrow

January 14, 2010

Well, it’s been a crazy week at the Walter Rescue Headquarters, a.k.a. our house. It began on Friday when outdoor FIV-positive cat Minou showed up with an abscess. The wonderful staff at Timonium Animal Hospital took good care of him, and he’s spent the past week in our kitchen, recovering and in good shape, although he is very unhappy about his cone.

Meanwhile, indoor cat Simon began peeing around the house. Dr. Howard at Timonium discovered that he has a swollen kidney, but he also hates Minou, so Simon is either urinating as an act of defiance in response to smelling Minou or because of an infection. Simon got a large dose of antibiotics, a litter box on the ground floor, and we’ve put Feliaway near the kitchen. So far, so good. I also had an entire conversation with Simon yesterday about his medical problems and the situation in Haiti, and am deeply concerned that he kept meowing in response. Either my cat is brilliant, or I have lost my mind.

Finally, there is good animal news for Walter Rescue - someone is coming to look at Lewis tomorrow and is very interested in adopting him! Since the potential adopters have a cat, Lewis went to the SPCA Wellness Clinic yesterday to make sure he is FIV/FLV negative, which he was. Yay! They also gave him a dewormer to be on the safe side. Lewis is now hot to trot to get out of the bathroom and make friends with some new people and cats. Keep your fingers crossed.
