Dog, Cats, and Kittens, Oh My
I believe there’s a memo with my name on it circulating the animal community that says “find Elizabeth if you are lost/abandoned/abused.” I have no other explanation for why I found a lab/beagle mix scrounging for food in an alley yesterday while I was en route to the post office.
It was raining, and cold, and the dog hopped in my car when given the opportunity. Off we went to the Maryland SPCA, where I am hoping someone claims her. She had a choke collar and flea collar on, and I am hoping her ID tags just fell off. Her temporary name is Meaghan, in honor of Walter’s adopter, which I realized later was a terrible and confusing idea given that most people, including us, know a bunch of Megan/Meghan/Meaghans. If Meaghan goes up for adoption at the SPCA, I am optimistic she will find a new home, as she was very sweet. I suspect she would be easy to foster, but at the moment we have our hands full with the kittens and another cat who is recuperating from oral surgery.
Kitten update: Lewis went after a bug yesterday, which I think bodes well for a career in mousing. Brooks is also spending more time in her cat hidey-hole than under the bathroom cabinet, and they are both eating like champs. They are growing bigger every day. They are both still pretty quiet, but I have also been piping music into the bathroom to get them used to voices and noise. They have been in the bathroom for a week, and I think are making super progress. I do not think either one will be the world’s most social cat, but either one will be a great addition to someone’s family.
